New Wave - Vision of the Youth
Dubrovnik, Croatia

...”Our world needs a great change in order to move forward and progress. A new order, a New Wave, will have to take the place of the old to remedy all the physical, social, intellectual and spiritual ills of the world. As the vanguard of this new movement, the youth are indispensable. It is the youth, and the youth only, who have the vigour to bring about the necessary change. It is the youth who have the resilience to change and adapt and implement the vision of a new society."... P.R. Sarkar

With these words the New Wave Programme was born. An International Gathering where the community, especially the youth, could learn from each other of new ideas and practical models of sustainable development, and through discussion, attempt to find realistic answers to very real issues.

There were parallel shareshops in 4 categories: Economy, Education, Environment and Lifestyle. The three day programme was well attended by approximately 130 people from around the world (Australia, USA, Taiwan, Italy, Netherlands, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Poland and more). The shareshops were of high quality with wonderful people presenting and sharing their wisdom and experiences (Zeljko Mavrovic (vegetarian ex-world champion boxer), Dada Shambhushivananda, Sohail Inayatullah, Hildur and Ross Jackson, Lee Staples and more). The participants were fully present in all shareshops despite the heat. And the amazing thing was that really young teenagers and youth were comfortably mixing with the experienced persons. The young felt at ease to drawn on the knowledge and experience that was brought to them and the presenters were amazed at the enthusiasm of the young.

The three-day parallel Education Intensive and Leadership Intensive that followed the main event were well attended by about 25 participants. During the Education Intensive the AM River School, Lotus Centre of Ulaan Bator, Zonnelicht in Holland, Maliraci children 's club of Cilipi, Inova Economy High School in Zagreb, Breza project near Osijek, Sri Atmananda School in Texas shared their programmes. Also Multiple Intelligence, Partnership Education and Neohumanist Education were highlighted and practical demonstrations of the YES (Yoga Education in Schools) programme in Italy.

As a result of this programme a kindergarten will be started in Dubrovnik, adopting some ideas and inspiration from the presentations. As well a youth centre (the New Wave Centre) is being organized by the youth of Dubrovnik.

Sergio Lub from the Friendly Favors was a key person in connecting all participants in the Friendly Favours Wave network. This network will carry on the New Wave spirit in the future. As well a network for AMGK was started.

The Gurukula meeting was brief and productive with commitments for 4 books to be written and others projects to be pursued and expanded. It was felt by all that a New Wave was started with bringing people together from different corners with similar goals. The Gurukul meeting concluded there should be similar events in the future where high intellectual and commitment levels are maintained.
